The third part of Abramsky's The American Way of Poverty was interesting to me. I thought the third part of Abramky's book was easier to read because of the personal experiences that people went through while being in poverty. It also talked about how the government could go about solving the poverty issue in a more successful way.One thing that caught my attention was when the book stated that United States' tax system is horrible and there needs to be something that will make our tax system better for everyone instead of making the poor "poorer" and the rich "richer". The book also stated " Absent living wage ordinances and related pay increases for vulnerable workers in the fields, in home healthcare, and the like-or acting in tendem with such reforms-legislators could also put state and federal tax codes to work on the side of the poor" (Abramsky, 2013).I think that strategy could help the poverty rate decrease. The third part made me able to apply everything that we have learned in class by reading this book.
Test Question: What are some ways the government could improve public policies regarding to poverty?
