I can agree with most readers and say that Abramsky has a
very natural way of letting our society know that poverty is, in fact, an issue
in our world today and needs to be taken care of immediately. I think Abramsky
shows that you do not have to act in big ways to change the world we live in,
but the smallest acts by everyone added up would make a huge impact on our
society. Not only should we try and stop poverty all over the world, we should
try to make sure it does not get worse and does not last as long as it seems
that it is going to. It may seem impossible to completely try and stop this
issue that is occurring all over but with the help of everyone, it is possible.
The most interesting thing in this chapter was when he talked about the welfare
system and how if we just improved that it would be a huge jump for the whole
world of poverty. Not even just making it a better system but trying to build
on to the programs that we already have enacted. Overall, his solutions seem to
be very doable to me. I think that our country should really take into
consideration what many people like Abramsky are saying and try to improve our
entire system.
Potential Test Question: What could we do to build on to our
welfare system?
